Description of awards and badges.
GNAS rankings:
3rd class
2nd class
1st class
Bowman
Master Bowman
Grand Master Bowman
These rankings are achieved by attaining a minimum score three times in a season for whichever rounds are eligible. (as decided by GNAS). Some of the higher rankings can only be attained with scores from record status shoots.
GNAS version of FITA Feather and Arrow badges:
Feather – Red
Gold
Arrow – White
Black
Blue
Red
Gold
These badges are awarded for attaining a minimum score for a short, 15 arrow round and passing an assessment based on shooting technique and knowledge of archery. The whole process is done inside the club by the coaches.
FITA Star and GNAS Rose awards:
These are badges awarded for scoring more than 800 for a York round and more than 1000 for a FITA. Subsequent badges are for every 100 points above the minimum.
Badges are awarded by GNAS for a six gold end at the archer’s maximum shooting distance or the one back from it. (eg. For an adult lady, this would be 80yds or 60yds). NB. The six gold end can be done during a practice session as well as at a competition but must be shot during a recorded round.
Various awards are available in other disciplines including the Arrowhead award in field shooting, for scores above a predetermined minimum, and Tassel awards for clout, also awarded on score.
Club and County records:
Anyone can set a record for any recognised round simply by shooting the highest recorded score. This happens automatically at competitions because organisers always send results lists to both club and county records officers. To achieve one during a practice session, the score must be recorded on a proper score sheet, must be countersigned by a coach or field captain and MUST be actually given to the records officer, (surprising how many people forget the last one!).
