The Kendal Bowmen

Kendal Bowmen Junior club has been held on a separate night from the seniors since 2003. Currently we have eighteen members, both boys and girls aged 11 to 18 who are looked after by up to five qualified coaches.

All juniors must complete a beginner’s course before joining the club. During the course they will be taught basic archery technique and safety using club equipment. Once they are members they are encouraged to attend competitions and achieve personal goals through coaching and practice. Junior members can continue to use club equipment for up to the first six months of membership.

Practice nights through the summer are in Tuesdays from 6.45 to 8.15 at the cricket club on Shap Rd., and through the winter on Fridays from 6.45 to 8.15 at Kirkland Hall. There is a practice session on Sunday mornings from 10am at the cricket club throughout the year which is open to both seniors and juniors.

Anyone wishing to enquiry about a beginners course should contact Tim Swane on 01539 739176 or email tim.swane@btopenworld.com

There are, however, some items for consideration before making an application:

Applicants must be 11 years old or over.

During the beginner’s course, and during practice sessions for under 15s, a parent or responsible adult for each junior must be present at all times. For archers over 15 and for under 15s who have been members for a while, permission may be given for them to be unaccompanied at the discretion of the coaches.

On completion of the beginner’s course, membership will only be offered if the applicant is considered suitable. This depends on attitude and behavior rather than ability.

Membership numbers are restricted so there could be a delay between application and beginners course.
